For some odd reason, we always reached the other side safely.
This is a challenge to myself to take my photography seriously and feel confident to share it with others. I want to look at the world more deeply and express, intelligently and creatively, what I find. Hopefully, you will enjoy my little snapshots of the beautiful, but often sorrowful, world that I see.

the haunted bridge
There is a bridge on Old Richardsville Road in Warren Co. Kentucky that has a reputation of being haunted. If you drive out onto the bridge at night, stop in the middle, and put your car in neutral, the ghost of creatures past will push you along, either to the other side or to your doom. We liked doing this in college.

A is for apple
Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings.
- Psalm 17:7-9
I was super-lucky to be able to go back to Jackson's Orchard this season. Marissa and I were able to get apple slushies, fried apple pies, and caramel apples. And, just like school kids on a field trip, we became mesmerized by the apple conveyor belt.

portraits: week5
This week's portrait assignment: Miss Erin Newman. I have been able to watch Erin blossom through high school, college, and the often ambiguous "after-college" years. She becomes more and more beautiful every year - both her spirit and her presence. It gladdens my heart to have her as part of my Louisville Family.

Rosine Barn Jamboree
I have a list of my favorite "Kentucky" things. What tops my list? Rosine, Ky. This little town in Ohio Co holds quite a Big presence in the Bluegrass world. As Bill Monroe's birthplace, Rosine looks back to the "good ole days" of community get -togethers, classic music, and the All-American Two-Step. Every time we visit Rosine, it is obvious that we are outsiders, but the community always welcomes us in. They will come up to us, ask us where we are from, what bluegrass music are we familiar with, and will even let us borrow instruments for the jam sessions outside the general store. Kentucky, I love you.

portraits: week 4
This week's portrait showcases a one Mr. Jason Myhre. I have been intrigued by Jason every since I moved to Louisville. He carries a sense of mystery, sophistication, and intelligence. He keeps his distance most of the time, so I felt very lucky for his agreement for the portrait. Jason is moving far away soon and it makes me sad...
some of my other favorites
We shot these at Mellwood Art Center. Jason is standing in front of murals that are filled with geometric shapes. This may not make sense...but I will try to explain the selection - Jason reminds me of squares and rectangles (I don't think this is just because of his glasses). He is very structured...put together, precise etc...an organic background would not have worked at all.

Posies and Plume
My friend EB (whose portrait was posted a few weeks ago) has a side business called Posies and Plume. They "make handmade fabric flowers and feathers that are sure to dress up girls AND guys: whether looking for an elegant wedding accessory, an alternative to a party hat or just something unique for everyday wear." I felt very honored when EB asked if I would take some of the promotion shots for her new fall line. Here are some of my favorite shots from that day.
I have never shot any kind of advertisement before...so this was definitely a challenge for me. Hopefully, I did EB's beautiful flowers justice. If you like Posies and Plume's style, you can check out the blog www.posiesandplume.blogspot.com/ or the etsy site: http://www.etsy.com/shop/posiesandplume
